Vale Graham - 27-11-11

Memorial Service - 9-12-11 - Blackheath Community Centre, 2pm

On the 27th of November, a man with one of the best smiles in Blackheath died suddenly. Graham was often seen in town with his friendly disposition and happy wave. Many times whilst getting petrol or waiting to cross at the lights, I would hear the usual, "G'day mate!" followed by a hand shake and a jovial chat. Then, off Graham would go again, smiling into shop windows with his head tilted sharply and that cheeky grin.

Just a few days before he died, I bumped into Graham outside Friar's Tucker - both of us have a love of hot chips drowned in vinegar. He expressed to me his concern over his health. Another 'nasty turn' and a fall had him really worried. We spoke about how frightening it can be when facing serious health issues and patted each other on the back. "I'll be right mate" he said, smiling and waving, as he walked in to buy some hot chips - perhaps for the last time.

Kindness is indeed eternal and for Graham's kindness we will all be eternally thankful. You will be sadly missed, mate. Thanks for giving us a reminder that what really matters in life is... Kindness.

Kindness is eternal,
It echoes in the heart.
Its seeds are sown and settle there,
To nurture wounded parts.
